Buying silencers and SBR's

The buying process of an NFA item can seem overwhelming and stressful, but it's actually quite simple. The process to purchase a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR) is the same.

The below process is handled by us for our local customers. If you are not local, the process is the same except that we will have to transfer to your local dealer and they will do the form 4 for you. These dealer to dealer transfers are done with an ATF form 3 and can take a a couple days to a few weeks to approve before we can ship your can to your dealer.

 Now let’s buy a silencer!

Step One:

Choose and purchase your silencer.  Again, we are here to help and have a lot of experience. There are a few things we'll ask to help you decide on the right can, so think about these few things.

What caliber(s) do you want to shoot?

What are you using it for? Hunting, Self Defense, Range-Day fun? Maybe all of the above?

What is most important to you? Maximum suppression, Low gas blowback, Light weight?

Step Two:

File your Form 4 with the ATF. There is a $200 tax per item to file a form 4 and receive a tax stamp.

This entire process is now done online and we do most of it for you.

You'll need to decide if you want to file in your name or in a trust. We can help you decide this and create a trust if that's the way you decide to go.

You will need digital fingerprints and a photo, we do both in the shop as well.

If we have your silencer in-stock, we can do all the paperwork and file your form 4 the same day. If we special order, we can’t submit a form 4 until we have the silencer transferred and shipped to us.

Step Three:

Wait! Once the ATF approves your form 4, you can fill out a 4473 just like purchasing a firearm and take home your silencer.

In the past you could expect to wait 6-14 months for approval. Although long waits can still happen for a variety of reasons, we are seeing historically fast approvals for most individual applications and trusts are speeding up as well. Many people are getting approvals in days to weeks. Once we file the form 4, it is totally out of our hands and up to the ATF so please don't get mad at us if you aren't one of the lucky 2 day approvals.
